Old Sacramento keeps the riverfront blocks where the city began during the Gold Rush. Dozens of buildings from the 1850s and 1860s still stand along wooden sidewalks beside the Sacramento River. The district has held National Historic Landmark status since 1965 and is now home to the California State Railroad Museum.
